Third’s Time the Charm (5-part, Bb trumpets)

This ensemble is about 5:20 in length and clearly takes advantage of the interval of a third, hence the goofy title.  As is the case with many of these ensembles, this one was written for my community jazz ensemble trumpet section better known as the Perimeter College Trumpet Ensemble.  So, like many of these pieces, there’s a little jazz thrown in to keep everyone happy.
It requires a good first trumpet player and Trumpets 2 and 5 have chord changes for improvising over a blues progression.

Here is a MIDI recording to give you an idea.  There are no improvised solos in this recording and the silence towards the end is where Trumpets 2 and 5 trade fours.
